Privacy Policy

WebTai (“WebTai”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is a writing-first social platform for the Tai/Shan community, available at webtai.app and as a mobile app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using WebTai you agree to this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We only collect what is needed to run the service:

Account information. When you sign in with Google or Facebook, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from that provider. We do not receive or store your Google/Facebook password.
Profile information. A display name, @handle, optional bio, and profile photo you set within WebTai.
Content you create. The posts (“takes”), replies, topics, likes, saves, and follows you create on WebTai.
Basic usage data. Standard technical information such as device/browser type and approximate request data, processed by our infrastructure providers to operate and secure the service.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not collect sensitive categories of data (such as precise location, contacts, or payment card numbers).

2. How We Use Your Information

To create and maintain your account and profile.
To display your posts, replies, and profile to other users.
To power features such as feeds, topics, follows, notifications, and search.
To protect WebTai against spam, abuse, and unauthorized access (including Google reCAPTCHA / Firebase App Check).
To operate, maintain, and improve the service.

3. How Your Information Is Shared

Publicly. Your display name, @handle, profile photo, and the posts/replies you create are visible to other WebTai users and visitors. Please do not post anything you wish to keep private.
Service providers. We use Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore database, Storage) and Cloudflare (hosting/CDN) to run WebTai. Your data is processed on their infrastructure under their security and privacy terms.
Legal. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of WebTai and its users.

We do not share your information with advertisers or data brokers.

4. Authentication Providers

WebTai uses Google Sign-In and Facebook Login. When you authenticate, the provider shares limited profile information (name, email, photo) with us so we can create your account. Your use of those providers is also governed by their own privacy policies:

5. Data Retention & Deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account inside the app. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, posts, replies, likes, saves, and follows from our database. Some content may persist briefly in backups or caches before being purged.

6. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), Firebase security rules that restrict access to your own data, and Firebase App Check / reCAPTCHA to deter automated abuse. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.

7. Children’s Privacy

WebTai is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

8. International Users

WebTai is operated using infrastructure hosted in Singapore (asia-southeast1) and other regions used by our providers. By using WebTai, you consent to the processing of your information in these locations.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Effective date” above. Continued use of WebTai after changes means you accept the updated policy.
